T&DI Announces George Nowak as the Winner of Airfield Pavement Practitioner Award

George Nowak, P. Eng., M.ASCE, Deputy Practice Manager, Hatch Mott MacDonald, was announced as the winner of the Airfield Pavement Practitioner Award. This award was established in 2009 to honor and recognize practicing engineers employed in the airfield pavement engineering profession with demonstrated leadership and/or achievement in airfield pavement projects.
Mr. Nowak is a graduate of the University of Toronto in Civil Engineering and has been involved in pavement engineering, airport planning, design and construction supervision, and infrastructure assessment for over 40 years. He is currently Hatch Mott MacDonald's Deputy Practice Area Director for airports in Canada. He is also the Vice Chair, Industry for the Canadian Airfield Pavement Technical Group (CAPTG) and holds memberships in the Canadian and American Societies of Civil Engineering and has been a presenter at many airfield pavement workshops in Canada and the USA. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the provinces of Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta. George has extensive airport design and construction management experience on Canadian airport projects and in 28 other countries dealing with flexible, rigid and composite pavements, airport development planning, detailed design and construction management. As deputy practice director he is also responsible for market development, mentoring, quality and professional excellence on airport projects in Canada. In 2012 he was awarded the Engineering Medal for Engineering Excellence by the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
