Murthy Bondada Appointed To T&DI Board Of Governors

Murthy V.A. Bondada, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE has been appointed by T&DI's Board of Governors for the 2-year position on the Board of Governors, commencing October 1, 2016. Dr. Bondada has served the civil engineering profession in various capacities ranging from faculty member, business executive, Fulbright Scholar to visiting professor. In a career spanning over fifty years, Dr. Bondada made tremendous contributions to the advancement of civil engineering in academia, industry, and the profession, especially in the areas of Transportation Engineering and Planning. Bondada has over 45 years of consulting experience in the areas of traffic engineering, transportation planning, transit, high speed rail, light rail, automated people movers (APMs), and multimodal transportation planning. Dr. Bondada served as a Member of the Florida State Board of Professional Engineers from 1999-2003. He was Senior Fulbright Research Scholar during 2007-2008. He is a recipient of Lifetime Achievement in Engineering award at Engineers Week Celebration in Orlando, FL in 2013.
Dr. Bondada has been involved with ASCE activities at national level for the last 43 years before and after Divisions converted into Institutes. In addition to serving as member of several technical committees, he chaired several ASCE committees: APM Committee (1981-85), Urban Transportation Division Executive Committee (Precedent to T&DI's BOG) (1985-89), founder Chairman HSGT Committee (now Rail Committee) (1983-85 and 1989-93), and PT Committee (1993-99). He initiated ASCE's International Conference series on APMs in 1985, HSGT Systems in 1991, and Urban Public Transportation Systems in 1999. Not only chairing and organizing these first international conferences, he edited or co-edited several conference proceedings. He initiated and served as founder chairman of transportation engineering technical groups in ASCE chapters at Detroit, MI (1973) and Harrisburg, PA (1975). He is a Life Fellow of ASCE and ITE and recipient of ASCE's Frank Masters Transportation Engineering award.
Dr. Bondada has bachelor degree in civil engineering and master degree in city planning from Andhra University and IIT Kharagpur, respectively, in India. He received master and Ph.D. degrees in transportation engineering from University of Pennsylvania and West Virginia University, respectively, in USA. He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Florida and his first registration as P.E. was in 1973 in Michigan. Dr. Bondada currently serves as Vice President, Transportation for EPIC Engineering & Consulting Group, LLC in Winter Springs, Florida.
