Ernie Heymsfield Selected as T&DI Board’s Official Nominee for the Four-Year Elected Position on the Board of Governors

Ernie Heymsfield, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE has been selected by T&DI's Board of Governors as the Official Nominee for the 4-year position on the Board of Governors, commencing October 1, 2017. Dr. Heymsfield is an Associate Professor at the University of Arkansas, where he has been teaching and conducting research as a faculty member for 20 years. Prior to his doctoral studies, he worked as a Bridge Structural Engineer for the New York City-based Pavlo Engineering Company, where his expertise was in structural engineering and numerical modeling. Author or coauthor of over 30 refereed journal articles and 16 conference articles, Dr. Heymsfield's research includes numerical modeling, seismic response, bridge engineering, and airfield runway safety. His most research work is related to aircraft safety during overruns and anti-icing runway pavements.

Dr. Heymsfield has been an ASCE member since 1993. His involvement with T&DI began in 2006 after becoming a member of the T&DI Airfield Pavement committee. He served as the Committee Vice Chair from 2008-2010, and as the Committee Chair from 2010-2012. In 2011, he began service as T&DI Aviation Council Chair for a period of four years. He also serves as the Vice Chair of the Transportation Research Board's Aircraft/Airport Compatibility Committee. Heymsfield, who earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees at the Polytechnic Institute of New York, received his Ph.D. from the City University of New York.

Additional nominees for the 4-year position on T&DI's Board of Governors may be submitted through a petition process.  To nominate someone through the petition process, you must submit a petition to the Institute Director which must be received no later than April 14, 2017, containing the signatures of 150 members in good standing of T&DI.  (Student members are not eligible to sign the petition.)  Accompanying the petition shall be a statement from the potential nominee indicating their willingness to stand for election if nominated and to serve if elected, along with a biographical statement highlighting their service to T&DI, ASCE, and other professional and technical organizations, and a photo of the person.  To be considered for the position on the Board of Governors, the nominee shall be a Member in good standing of T&DI and a member in good standing of ASCE at the time of nomination.  Student members are not eligible for election to the Board of Governors.  The petition, nominee's statement, biography, and photo shall be sent to the Institute Director, Muhammad Amer, M.ASCE at American Society of Civil Engineers, 1801 Alexander Bell Drive, Reston, VA, 20191, USA and received no later than April 14, 2017.  Electronic submissions can be sent to mamer@asce.org
