Dr. Al-Ghandour Receives the 2020 ASCE Government Civil Engineer of the Year Award

Dr. Majed Al-Ghandour, recipient of the 2020 ASE Governor Civil Engineer of the Year Award T&DI is pleased to announce that our own Majed Al-Ghandour, Ph.D., P.E., CPM, M.ASCE has been awarded the 2020 Government Civil Engineer of the Year Award. This prestigious award recognizes distinguished civil engineers employed in public service for significant engineering contributions as a practitioner in public service.

Dr. Al-Ghandour was chosen as the 2020 winner for exemplary performance and dedication as a civil engineer at a government agency and for contributions to the profession through employment at the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Dr. Al-Ghandour is the Chair of the T&DI Street & Highway Operations Committee. Through impactful employment at the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Dr. Al-Ghandour has a career that includes an extraordinary number of highlights.  In addition to a leadership position at NCDOTs Division of Planning and Programming, Dr. Al-Ghandour has, in the past five years, taught 5 different college credit courses and 23 short courses.  In his career, he made 18 conference presentations, peer reviewed multiple engineering journals and conference proceedings, and also published 36 peer-reviewed papers. 

With ASCE, in addition to chairing T&DI's Street and Highway Operations Committee, he has also served on the Board of Governors.  He is a member of Transportation Research Board including participation on the Access Management Committee and the Surrogate Measures of Safety subcommittee.

Dr. Al-Ghandour serves as an adjunct professor at North Carolina State University, The University of Maryland Graduate School of Management and Technology, and the Fayetteville State University Broadwell College of Business and Economics.  He is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina and Virginia.  Dr. Al-Ghandour carries multiple certifications including several dozen SAS certificates.
