Chandra R. Bhat, Ph.D., M.ASCE has been selected by T&DI's Board of Governors as the Official Nominee for the 4-year position on the Board of Governors, commencing October 1, 2021. Additional nominees for the 4-year position on T&DI's Board of Governors may be submitted through a petition process, the details of which are provided below.
About Chandra Bhat
Dr. Bhat is the Director of the Center for Transportation Research (CTR) and the Adnan Abou-Ayyash Centennial Professor in Transportation Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He has a joint appointment between the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (CAEE) and the Department of Economics at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Bhat is the Joe J. King Chair in Engineering and current Director of the Data-Supported Transportation Operations and Planning (D-STOP) Tier 1 USDOT University Transportation Center. He is a world-renowned expert in the area of transportation and urban policy design, with far reaching implications for public health, energy dependence, greenhouse gas emissions, and societal quality of life. Methodologically, he has been a pioneer in the formulation and use of statistical and econometric methods to analyze human choice behavior. His current research includes the social and environmental aspects of transportation, safety and planning implications of connected and automated smart transportation systems (CASTS), and data science and predictive analytics. Dr. Bhat currently serves on T&DI's Board of Governors as ASCE President's appointee. He also serves on T&DI's CAV Impacts Committee, and is the Chair of ASCE International Conference on Transportation & Development.
Petition Process & Deadline
To nominate someone through the petition process, you must submit a petition to the Institute Managing Director which must be received no later than May 7, 2021, containing the signatures of 150 members in good standing of T&DI. (Student members are not eligible to sign the petition.) Accompanying the petition shall be a statement from the potential nominee indicating their willingness to stand for election if nominated and to serve if elected, along with a biographical statement highlighting their service to T&DI, ASCE, and other professional and technical organizations, and a photo of the person. To be considered for the position on the Board of Governors, the nominee shall be a Member in good standing of T&DI and a member in good standing of ASCE at the time of nomination. Student members are not eligible for election to the Board of Governors.
