The UESI's Pipelines Division Executive Committee and several key leaders convened at Arizona State University on January 29-30 for their annual meeting in reviewing strategic plans and updates on on-going initiatives in Pipelines Division. Arizona State University is home to the Pipelines Division Secetary Samuel T. Ariaratnam Ph.D., P.E., P.Eng., F.ASCE who is professor and program chair of Construction Engineering Department at ASU. The meetings were held at the Del E. Webb School of Construction and School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment. UESI inaugural president Randy Hill, P.E., F.ASCE, UESI governor and Pipelines Division past-chair John Galleher, P.E., M.ASCE, Pipelines newsletter editor Erin McGuire, P.E., M.ASCE attended the meetings along with UESI director John Segna, P.E., BCEE, F.ASCE and program manager Frank Kim, Aff.M.ASCE.
The Pipelines Division was launched in 1979 by ASCE for the advancement and correlation of scientific knowledge and engineering practice, and the promotion and coordination of socio-economic and environmental development and construction of engineering projects realtive to the transmission of liquids, gases or solids by pipelines. The annual ASCE Pipelines Conference has been a successful conference in bringing a cross section of practitioners, engineers, professionals, commercial services and products in the pipelines industry. The 2016 conference will be first conference to include the surveying and geomatics practice in the conference program.
Pipelines Division Executive Committee Chair, Timothy B. Kennedy, P.E., M.ASCE stated:
As you may know, the ASCE Pipelines Division is now part of the new Utility Engineering & Surveying Institute. The Pipeline Division will continue to operate as it has done in the past but now with the focus on being part of an Institute. I would like to report that the activity in the Pipeline Division continues to move at a feverish pace. The Executive Committee had our annual meeting with updates from all of the Technical Committees, and discussions regarding all Pipeline Division activities with the Institute staff.
We also got the opportunity to do a quick site visit of next year's Pipelines Conference at the JW Marriott in Scottsdale, AZ and discussed the possible locations for the 2018 conference. However, for now, we are very excited about the 2016 Pipelines Conference in Kansas City in July! Nearly 180 papers were accepted to be presented at the 2016 Conference in Kansas City. The preliminary program for the Conference will be online in the near future. The papers have been reviewed by our fantastic team of reviewers and Conference Technical Committee members led by Bryon Livingston, Cate Cliff, Jeff Hedrick and Anna Pridmore, and we are now awaiting submission of the final papers. The registration for the conference will open in few weeks.
We are looking forward to an exciting and informative conference. This year we have included our sister divisions, the Utility Division and the Surveying Division, in the program by including a new technical track covering utilities and surveying papers. We hope that this will now attract a more diverse technical group to the conference. In addition, Sponsorship and Exhibit opportunities are still available. Look forward to seeing you in Kansas City
