UESI Board of Governors Host First ASCE Webinar on Its Pipelines Utilities Risk Management and Surveying Divisions
On March 29, several key members of the Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute (UESI) Board of Governors conducted a free ASCE eLearning webinar on the work and objectives of the new and ASCE's ninth institute to nearly 170 participants. The one hour webinar was moderated by UESI governor Kristina Swallow, P.E., M.ASCE and presented by UESI president Randall Hill, P.E., F.ASCE, UESI governors David Totman, P.E., M.ASCE, Ralph Carpenter, P.E., M.ASCE and Jim Anspach, P.G., F.ASCE.
The webinar was presented in four separate segments- a brief history and overview of UESI presented by Hill, followed by presentations on the three divisions currently in UESI- Pipelines by Carpenter, Utilities Risk Management by Anspach, and Surveying & Geomatics Divisions by Totman. The three divisions includes more than thirty working program and technical committees combined. UESI plans to add Construction Management, Asset Management, and the Standards Divisions by 2018. The presenters also had opportunities to answer key questions by participants after the presentation.
UESI president Randy Hill stated:
UESI began operation on October 1, 2015, and the Board of Governors provides policy leadership for the new Institute. The three Executive Committees (EXCOMs) of the two founding divisions and committee provide the leadership and technical oversight for the three active divisions. Recently, the Standards Division has become active and will lead efforts to oversee the production of multiple new standards for civil engineers and surveyors. The Construction Inspection and Asset Management Divisions will become active in the near future as leadership volunteers are identified.
Currently, UESI supports four local UESI Chapters across the country (and are in process of adding additional chapters). In addition, four founding organizational members have pledged support for UESI- AMERICAN Ductile Iron Pipe, Cardno, mc2 Civil, Inc., and Pure Technologies. Currently, UESI membership is over 700 members strong. If your professional interest areas are in utilities, pipelines, surveying, or the construction inspection and asset management of utilities and pipelines, then you should consider joining UESI.
Overall, the UESI webinar was a success and we look forward to conducting more learning webinars in the future."
