Exciting Technical Sessions and Events Lined Up at 2016 Pipelines Conference
On behalf of the Pipelines Conference Steering Committee, we welcome you to
register and attend the 2016 Pipelines Conference
in July 17-20 in Kansas City. Annually, this conference has provided the best, and constantly improving, venue for sharing new approaches and techniques to answer the need for more reliable and cost-effective water and wastewater conveyance, installed more quickly, with less interference, and in a political environment that largely ignores infrastructure of any kind, much less infrastructure that is "
out of sight, out of mind, not out of risk
The Pipelines Conference has also offered one of the only venues for sharing approaches between the petrochemical industry and the municipal water and wastewater industries. It is always the job of the engineer to do more with less, yet still provide safety factors to ensure that installed assets perform as intended over a wide range of operations. Building new pipeline infrastructure under a now-more-commonly built urban area increases the risks but also increases the opportunities for fresh approaches. It is the purpose of this conference to stimulate creative thinking by pooling ideas developed for a wide variety of installations so that the best combination of ideas can be utilized to most cost-effectively meet the needs of your next project.
Toward that end, we have developed the
largest Pipelines technical program
to date, with nearly 180 papers spread among 8 tracks, plus 4 focused pre-conference workshops, a panel discussion and an engineering ethics session. We will have the largest and broadest list of Pipelines exhibitors ever, showcasing the best technologies for piping and maintenance, and have rearranged the schedule to allow more time to visit exhibitors for identifying potential solutions.
For early arrivals, there will be a 5K run on Sunday morning. The following day, we will kick off an excellent group of presenters, including keynote presentations by Kansas City Mayor Sly James and Kansas City Water Services Director Terry Leeds , P.E., M.ASCE, ASCE 2016 President Mark Woodson , P.E., D.WRE, M.ASCE, Kansas City Royals TV commentator and motivational speaker Rex Hudler , and Water for People CEO Eleanor Allen , P.E., BCEE.
We will begin Tuesday morning with an Order of the Engineer ceremony and recognize the outstanding performance of two dedicated professionals at the Awards Luncheon by bestowing the Bechtel Award and Pipeline Division Award of Excellence. Tuesday evening you can network and enjoy some world-famous Kansas City BBQ and jazz while contemplating what it takes to maintain our freedom at the World War I Memorial Museum. And Wednesday afternoon following the conference will be the golf tournament and technical tour of WaterOne.
Throughout the conference there will be continuing opportunities to reconnect with friends, learn from your associates, and enjoy the ambiance of one of America's great heartland cities.
Thank you in advance for contributing to the success of this premier industry event and making it the conference of choice for pipeline professionals from around the world.
