Seeking Comments on Proposed Standard Guideline for Recording and Exchanging Utility Infrastructure Data

Many civil engineers and contractors know inconsistent underground utility records cause delays and cost overruns to numerous infrastructure projects. In 2013 the Construction Institute (CI) formed a technical committee to revolutionize documentation of newly installed and exposed utility infrastructure by developing a standard guideline.
Application of this guideline will result in accurate and consistent information about the location and characteristics of utility infrastructure captured at the time of installation. That information will be available both during the construction phase as well as for lifecycle infrastructure management and future projects.
The standard guideline will complement
ASCE/CI Standard 38-02, Standard Guidelines for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data.
