March 2018 UESI Divisions Update

The Division is holding a UESI Surveying and Geomatics Conference on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona, April 22 - 24, 2018. This will be the first national ASCE conference dedicated to surveying since 1992. View the preliminary program for the conference.Registration is now open.
The ASCE Surveying and Mapping Award will be awarded to Dr. Tomas Soler during the Surveying and Geomatics Conference on April 24, 2018.
Two 4-hour workshops will be given on Sunday, April 22, 2018, on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona. The first workshop is on the theory and design of low-distortion map projections as well as the future of state plane coordinates after 2022. The second workshop is on substructure utility location and engineering per ASCE Standard 38-02.
The UESI Surveying & Geomatics Division executive committee will be meeting from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. (PDT) on Sunday, April 22, 2018, on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona.
The Surveying Committee is preparing a new Manual of Practice on Surveying & Geomatics Engineering that is scheduled to be completed in 2018. An ASCE webinar with more details on the contents of this manual is scheduled for August 30, 2018, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. (EDT).

The Pipeline Division is in the midst of planning for the UESI 2018 Pipelines Conference in Toronto, Canada, July 15-18.

The Standards Division is evaluating proposals to create new standards.
Several standards published by the Construction Institute will be transferred to UESI after the completion of their present review cycle

The Trenchless Technology Center (TTC) at Louisiana Tech University in conjunction with the ASCE's Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute (UESI) had teamed to hold their second TTC Utility Investigation School (UIS) between February 26 - March 2, 2018. This one-week course provided the attending practitioners the knowledge and tools to provide competent utility investigations in accordance with accepted national standards (ASCE 38).
UESI Utility Risk Management Division developed several technical engineering sessions at the Common Ground Alliance Conference held in Phoenix, AZ on March 6-8, 2018. The sessions were well attended.
