Sunday, August 23, 2020

The UESI Pipelines 2020 Conference was presented for the first time as a Virtual event August 10 - 13, 2020. Focusing on the theme Resiliency in Infrastructure , the conference was a reimagining of the originally planned event and an opportunity for attendees to partake from the extensive technical program. The successful conference attracted approximately 1000 registrants. There were 117 technical papers presented during sessions and more than 20 available on-demand. Plenary sessions featured 3 keynotes and addresses by ASCE Executive Director Tom Smith, and ASCE President Jean-Louis Briaud. The virtual conference platform also featured an exhibit hall, fun activities, social breaks, and opportunities to reconnect in room breakouts with familiar friends.

UESI wishes to thank the Conference Co-chairs James R. Geisbush, P.E., P.M.P, F.ASCE, and Juan D. Gomez, Ph.D., P.E. UESI would like to thank our generous sponsors, without which the Pipelines Conference would not have been possible. Our Premier sponsor was Structural Technologies. Our Platinum sponsors were Mid America Pipe Fabricating, and KCI. Gold sponsors were Garney Construction, Mueller, Northwest Pipe, and Pure Technologies a Xylem Brand. Silver sponsors were Carollo, and Jacobs. Bronze sponsors were American Concrete Pressure Pipe Association, Alliance for PE Pipe, Black & Veatch, CP&Y, Freese & Nichols, and Ramboll.

A huge thank you to attendees who had to adapt to a new environment, unsure of what to expect. Additional thanks to the Technical Committee, Track Chairs, and Moderators who adapted to the new virtual platform.

Enthusiastic presenters invested time and effort in the weeks prior and during the conference with recordings and live question & answer and panel sessions. In addition, they put a great deal of work into their proceedings papers over a period of several months.
