In conferring its awards in various categories, the ASBPE pays tribute to the efforts of business publication editors and designers and their commitment to excellence in journalism and graphic presentation. The awards recognize the editorial content and graphics of print publications.

In the area of design, the magazine’s art director, Jan Hilton, won a national bronze award for the opening spread of the article “Sky Watcher,” which was published in the May 2007 issue. Jan was also recognized with regional awards, garnering a gold award for the cover of the January 2007 issue; a silver award for the August 2007 cover; a bronze award for the November 2007 cover; a bronze award for the graphic design of “Sky Watcher”; a gold award for the opening spread of the feature article “Tower of Power,” which was published in the October 2007 issue; and a silver award for the opening spread of the article “Taking the Lead,” which was published in the December 2007 issue.

 Jan Hilton won a Grand Award in the area of design and illustration for the Bridges calendar (designed, edited, and produced by the magazine staff), an Award of Excellence for the cover design of the January 2007 issue of Civil Engineering, and an Award of Excellence for the design and layout of the article “Reconsidering Value Engineering: The Rhode Island School of Design Library Project,” which was published in the February 2007 issue of the magazine. Brett Hansen won an Award of Excellence for his feature article “Gathering Strength,” which was published in the August 2007 issue of the magazine; Robert Reid won an Award of Excellence for “Grand Inspiration”; and the editorial staff and contributing editors won an Award of Excellence for news series writing in the magazine’s Civil Engineering News department.

The magazine won a regional Award of Excellence in the technical article category for “Geometry Lesson” by Jason Jones, P.E., Christopher Hauke, P.E., M.ASCE, Andreas Greuel, P.E., M.ASCE, and Brad Saalfeld, P.E., M.ASCE, which was published in the May 2006 issue. In the design category, Jan Hilton won a national award for the opening spread of the article “Counterpoint,” which was published in the March 2006 issue. Jan also won a national award in the feature article design category for her design of the article “Landmark Revisited,” which was published in the April 2006 issue. Additionally, she won four regional design awards for the opening spread of the feature article “Landmark Reinvented”; for the opening spread of the feature article “The Berlin Connection,” which was published in the August 2006 issue; for the cover of the February 2006 issue; and for the cover of the April 2006 issue.
