Jennifer Carey (PE, M.ASCE) is a Senior Engineer at DNV. Her areas of practice include structural and geotechnical engineering, and she holds professional engineering licenses in multiple states. Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Since entering the solar industry in 2011, she has gained extensive experience in the design and testing of flat roof, pitched roof, and fixed-tilt ground-mounted solar racking systems, as well as foundation design for fixed-tilt and tracker applications. Her project experience includes serving as both the Structural Foundation Engineer of Record and Geotechnical Engineer of Record for utility-scale solar PV tracker projects. In her role as an independent engineer, she has also performed technology reviews for solar PV projects and products. Jennifer has contributed to several industry publications and standards, including the SEAOC PV2-2017, SEAOC PV3-2019, the SEAOC Wind Design Manual Based on the 2018 IBC and ASCE/SEI 7-16, ASCE/SEI 7-22, and Design and Construction of Solar PV Structures (ASCE Manual of Practice 162). She is actively involved in the development of industry standards through her participation on committees including ASCE 7-28, ASCE 90 - Criteria for the Design and Construction of Foundations, and the ASCE Solar PV Structures Committee.
