Rory Roberts, P.Eng. is Director of Sustainability and a Project Engineer at Glotman Simpson Consulting Engineers, bringing deep expertise in the structural design of concrete, steel, and timber across residential commercial and institutional projects. He builds efficient, constructible designs through close collaboration with architects, clients, and contractors, with strength in lateral design for high-rise and mid-rise buildings on shared podium structures and in all aspects of gravity design.
Rory leads Glotman Simpson’s sustainability initiatives, with a focus on embodied carbon reduction, life cycle assessment, and the integration of sustainability into structural engineering practices. Balancing his roles as sustainability leader and practicing engineer, he works with project teams to target early design efficiencies that deliver both cost savings and carbon reduction – proving that low-carbon and economical design aren’t competing goals.
His recent work includes leading Glotman Simpson’s online blog series ‘On Track’, embodied carbon studies, internal tool development, and policy-focused research - including a case study evaluating the embodied carbon of the Sen̓áḵw development against the Vancouver Building By-law and a review of the embodied carbon savings for the mass timber North Shore Neighborhood Phase 2 tower – work that continues to shape how the industry approaches low-carbon construction.
