Tom Lorentz is the President of North American Operations for IDOM. IDOM is a privately held, multi-discipline engineering company with more than 5000 professionals and 45 offices around the world, with headquarters in Bilbao, Spain. He is a two-time graduate of the University of Minnesota Department of Civil Engineering, with BCE and MS with a structural engineering focus. He is also an alumnus of the University’s Carlson School of Management and the Minnesota Management Institute. Tom’s professional career has been focused on the design and evaluation of special structures in the refining, chemical, paper, and manufacturing sectors. He has significant experience in the analysis and design of welded shell and plate structures. In the past ten years he has been involved as a project principal on multiple, large-scale complex projects for science and astronomy. Tom is a registered professional engineer in 27 States and 4 Canadian Provinces. He is an active member of several local and national professional associations, and a past president of the Minnesota chapter of ASCE. He is a member of the Professional Advisory Board for the Department of Civil Environmental and Geoengineering at the U of M. Tom is a long-term member of the American Petroleum Institute subcommittee on Aboveground Storage Tanks and past Chairman of the Contractors and Fabricators group within that committee. Tom lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
