Applying for advancement to ASCE Fellow

To apply for Fellow, complete the Fellow application and submit it to the Membership Application Review Committee (MARC). Fellow candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of responsible charge as a professional member* and a P.E. or P.L.S./L.S./P.S. license. There is no direct admission to the grade of Fellow.

Members may request a waiver of specific requirements.

• Applicants for the Fellow grade should provide the following:

  • Completed Fellow application form (PDF) 
  • Nomination form (PDF) completed by a known and authorized representative of an ASCE Organizational Entity. Candidates should know the person representing the Organizational Entity. Examples of Organizational Entities include section or branch presidents, institute board of governors members, committee officers or chairs, student chapter faculty advisors, student chapter department heads, student chapter officers or presidents, etc.
    
    NOTE: Candidates should only contact ASCE Board of Direction members if they previously had a professional or personal relationship.
    
    
  • Copy of Professional Engineer or Professional Land Surveyor license (U.S. or international)
  • Completed testimonial reference forms (PDF) from three references (two must be from ASCE Fellows or higher grade of membership; the third may be from an ASCE Member or higher grade of membership). Please have the completed forms emailed directly to [email protected]. They are meant to be confidential from the candidate.
    
    There is a membership directory available to help locate your colleagues who are Members and Fellows.
    
    A reference is a person who agrees to recommend you for a job or program based on their experience with your work, character, or skills. The best references are people who know you professionally and can speak about your work habits and abilities.
    Good options for references include:
    •    Current or former supervisors
    •    Colleagues or coworkers
    •    Academic or faculty advisers
    •    Professors or instructors you’ve worked with closely
    •    Leaders of organizations where you’ve volunteered
    Always ask someone before listing them as a reference. Avoid using family members, friends, roommates, or significant others, since they cannot provide an unbiased view of your strengths and weaknesses.

  All applications for the Fellow grade are thoroughly reviewed by the Membership Application Review Committee (MARC), which meets monthly as needed.
