Paul V. Whitney, an ASCE Life Member who worked for Bethlehem Steel, has died. He was 82.

Whitney, M.ASCE, graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in civil engineering in 1959. Besides Bethlehem Steel, his experience included work with Rohm and Haas, a specialty chemical firm headquartered in Philadelphia.

He followed an eclectic but disciplined path, and engineering wasn’t his only interest. An ardent astronomer, he also built telescopes; an accomplished marksman, he naturally pursued firearms instruction. For him, activities seemed to lead to vocations.

For many years he made his home in Cinnaminson, New Jersey, but more recently lived in Rowley, Massachusetts.

Whitney was also a sailor, woodworker, bluegrass musician, and sports car enthusiast.
