Kevin Lee Young, a project engineer for Milian, Swain & Associates Inc., in Miami, has died. He was 49.
Being of an analytical bent from an early age, he enjoyed applying himself to problem-solving when others sought his advice. But if he wasn’t busy benefitting others’ lives he could be found with his first love, analyzing and fixing cars.
Young spent six years with Milian, Swain & Associates Inc., a multi-discipline, full-service firm that provides consulting services in civil and environmental science and engineering, and related financial and management concerns. It is minority owned and serves both government and municipal clients.
While he worked toward his professional engineering license, he was assigned as lead engineering designer and coordinator for all of Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department’s Pump Station Improvement Program task orders (over 30) as well as multiple other engineering assignments.
Hardworking, with a consistent professional demeanor, Young was dedicated to bettering himself and those around him. He amassed 10 years of experience in the design of civil infrastructure systems in South Florida.
Young earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Florida Atlantic University. Other interests were DJ’ing, science fiction, and traveling. Coaching his son’s basketball team, mentoring, and motivating students on and off the court were his passions.
