Amit Mukherjee, president and principal engineer of Base Engineering in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and former president of the ASCE Lehigh Valley Section, has died. He was 60.

Mukherjee, P.E., F.ASCE, had been president and principal at Base since 2014. He worked on many projects in and around the Lehigh Valley area, among them planning and coordinating with contractors for the installation of a stormwater management system that would provide detention and infiltration to the site of Compass Business Center, a new development of 600 units.

He was president of ASCE’s Lehigh Valley Section in 2000-01, and a Society fellow.

Mukherjee was experienced in general civil, environmental, and geotechnical engineering, consulting, project planning, zoning, project management, and as an expert witness. He was Base’s vice president for many years. In the Jamshedpur area of his native India, he worked with Tata Steel.

After an education in India, he earned his master’s degree from Kansas State University. He enjoyed playing cricket, golf, and badminton as well as singing and traveling with his family.
