Roger Lynn Jeffery, a Florida-based structural engineer and past director on ASCE’s Board of Direction from 1994-1996, has died. He was 70.
Until recently he was a consultant for the Florida Engineers Management Corporation legal department, where he reviewed complaints against engineers for the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.
“Roger was a great mentor and helped me tremendously when I first came on board as FBPE assistant executive director,” Executive Director Zana Raybon said. “He was a great friend, too. He will be missed by the legal department as well as he had served as [an] FEMC consultant for many years.”
Jeffery, P.E., F.ASCE, specialized in structural engineering and forensic structural investigations. He had extensive experience in project design for a range of publicly and privately funded projects, including commercial, institutional, high-rise residential, and governmental work. In addition to design, he was proficient at inspections, condition reports, and professional opinions for lending institutions, condominium associations, management companies, real estate firms, attorneys, and insurance companies.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Miami, Jeffery worked for and became president and chief operating officer of Jenkins & Charland. He moved on to structural division director of TLC Engineering Solutions, senior structural engineer at AMEC Environment & Infrastructure, and after that became a senior project engineer with Terracon in Winter Park, Florida.
Jeffery was ASCE’s Zone 10 director from 1994 through 1996 and was a life member. He also was a member of the Florida Engineering Society. He served two full terms on the corporate board of FEMC, from June 2005 until October 2012. He was its vice chair from June 2010 to June 2011, and its chair from June 2011 to June 2012.
Jeffery was an avid supporter of the Audubon Society, was active in Kiwanis and received a lifetime achievement for work with the March of Dimes.
