ASCE has honored Gordon G.T. Masterton, OBE DL, HonD.Eng., with the 2025 Civil Engineering History and Heritage Award for his outstanding and far-reaching contributions to civil engineering history and heritage in Great Britain, especially Scotland, but also beyond.  

Masterson is highly respected and widely known for his many papers published, interviews granted, and presentations given. He is recognized for his university teaching, engineering consulting, and active leadership in a wide variety of organizations.

He is Professor Emeritus of Future Infrastructure at the University of Edinburgh, where prior to this he was both professor and chair. Since 2015 he has been principal of Grier Consulting Ltd, performing Independent Assurance reviews for HS2, National Highways and Thames Water.

Among his other awards are Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), 2008, president of the Institution of Engineers & Shipbuilders in Scotland, 2010-12, and president of the Institution of Civil Engineers, 2005-06. 

The Civil Engineering History and Heritage Award is presented to those persons who, through writing, research, or other efforts, have made outstanding contributions to a better knowledge of, or appreciation for, the history and heritage of civil engineering.
