ASCE has launched a series of new AI tools to help members more easily access Society resources.

“As technology and the profession continue to evolve, ASCE is committed to ensuring that civil engineers can responsibly leverage AI-driven resources to deliver safe, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure,” said ASCE Executive Director Tom Smith. “The Eaves and CORI platforms underscore ASCE’s commitment to accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies and knowledge sharing, so civil engineers can advance innovative, future-ready infrastructure solutions that will protect the public health, safety, and welfare.”

ASCE AMPLIFY, the home of ASCE standards, manuals of practice, and other publications, has introduced Eaves, an AI assistant trained on content from across the platform.

Eaves offers a chat-style search function, which helps users quickly locate information hosted on ASCE AMPLIFY. The tool helps engineers by providing detailed, tailored answers and guidance using ASCE’s trusted standards and publications, streamlining content discovery and supporting informed decision-making in civil engineering projects.

Eaves was named after Elsie Eaves, who became the first woman member of ASCE in 1927. The name also takes inspiration from the architectural term “eaves,” referring to a roof overhang. As a member of ASCE, Eaves was a staunch supporter for diversity in civil engineering, and she worked tirelessly to make the field more inclusive and grant “protection and shelter for all” as an overhang does.

CORI, short for Collaborate’s Organizational Research Intelligence, is a new chat-style AI search feature on ASCE Collaborate. The name was chosen to reflect the chatbot’s ability to quickly sift through and organize information from ASCE Collaborate discussions, events and documents.

With CORI, users can navigate Collaborate’s extensive catalogue of forums, which cover topics such as standards, career development, and more. CORI can provide both summaries of relevant information and links to related discussions so users can access more in-depth information.

The AI assistant can also help users post their own questions on Collaborate forums to get answers directly from other civil engineers with its “Ask Your Fellow Humans” feature.

ASCE has also debuted an AI assistant to enhance the ASCE2027 experience. Located in the footer of the ASCE2027 website, the chat-style ASCE2027 Event Concierge can answer user questions about the upcoming event and submission topics.
