Ten members of ASCE, including two Distinguished Members, have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering’s 2026 class, joining 120 U.S. and 27 international engineers.

Election to NAE is among the profession’s highest recognitions, reflecting outstanding contributions to engineering practice, research, or education, especially for major advancements and innovations. It’s an acknowledgment by peers – academy members who voted in January.

Formal induction will take place during NAE’s annual meeting in October. Here are the 10 ASCE members and the achievements that earned them election:

Amy Elizabeth Childress, NAE, M.ASCE, dean’s professor of civil and environmental engineering and director of the ReWater Center, Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Southern California, Los Angeles. For advancing membrane technologies for desalination and wastewater reuse.

Michael N. Fardis, NAE, M.ASCE, emeritus professor, civil engineering department, University of Patras, Patras, Greece. For leadership in modeling and analysis of concrete structures and for advancing building code provisions for earthquake-resistant construction.

George Evangelos Leventis, P.E., NAE, F.ASCE, managing principal and executive vice president, Langan Engineering; and managing director, Langan International LLC, West Palm Beach, Florida. For geotechnical engineering, deep foundations, seismic risk assessment and mitigation, and construction of complex civil works.
