ASCE has honored Perry S. Green, Ph.D., P.E., F.SEI, F.ASCE, with the 2026 Shortridge Hardesty Award for cumulative efforts and outstanding achievements in the research, teaching, and engagement of the profession as it relates to the stability analysis and design of steel/metal structures, thereby making substantial advancements to codes and standards of structural steel and cold-formed steel.
Green showcases the spirit of the Hardesty Award through his longstanding commitment and contributions to the Structural Stability Research Council (previously Column Research Council) over his decades-long career. He has been involved with the council’s transitions through the years and is considered a historian of SSRC in documenting its history.
His work on inelastic members from both high-performance and cold-formed steel and as a subject matter expert in the nuclear power plant industry showcase his wide breadth of knowledge and commitment to structural engineering and specifically structural stability.
Green embodies a unique blend of technical expertise, translational research, and dedicated service to the stability community, and has been recommended by many of the prominent engineers and researchers in the structural stability community.
The Shortridge Hardesty Award is given to a member or members of the Society who have contributed substantially in applying fundamental results of research to the solution of practical engineering problems in the field of structural stability.
