Just in time for Earth Day, journalist and author Jake Bittle has been confirmed as a keynote speaker at ASCE2027.

Bittle is a reporter whose work primarily focuses on climate change, energy, and disasters. He is a staff writer at Grist and author of The Great Displacement: Climate Change and the Next American Migration, which examines the impact of climate-driven disasters pushing Americans away from their homes.

In his talk, Bittle will discuss the challenge of building disaster-resilient infrastructure in the nation amid financial and regulatory constraints. He will also explore the broader challenge of decarbonization in a world that demands more power than ever before.

The selection of Bittle as a keynote speaker at ASCE2027 reflects the growing prioritization of resilient solutions in civil engineering. His perspective will help connect climate experts with civil engineers to advance community priorities.

ASCE2027: The Infrastructure and Engineering Experience will bring together the Society’s flagship institute technical conferences into a new experience. The first-of-its-kind event will connect infrastructure experts from all disciplines for engaging speeches, discussions, workshops, deep technical content, and more to advance infrastructure priorities across the globe.

Bittle is the second announced keynote for ASCE2027, joining Ayanna Howard, a pioneer in artificial intelligence. Howard currently serves as dean of the Ohio State University College of Engineering and was chosen by Business Insider as one of the most powerful women engineers in the world

Additional keynotes will be announced throughout 2026.
