Jaeyoung Jay Lee, Ph.D., CEng, F.ASCE, a professor of traffic and transportation engineering at Central South University in Changsha, China, has been named a fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Lee leads the SPIRiT Lab (Safety & Planning Innovative Research in Transportation Laboratory) at Central South. He also holds appointments as a courtesy professor at the University of Central Florida, a visiting fellow at the Queensland University of Technology, and a visiting professor at Ajou University. His research focuses on traffic safety, crash prediction models, intelligent transportation systems, connected and automated vehicles, and human factors in driving. 

He has been recognized on the Stanford/Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists list for six consecutive years (2020-25). Lee serves as an associate editor for Accident Analysis & Prevention, the Transportation Research Record, and the KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering, and is an editorial board member for nine other academic journals.

Lee earned his doctoral degree in civil engineering from the University of Central Florida and his master's and bachelor's degrees from Ajou University.
