Region 5 Society Director Official Nominee
Vision statement
As civil engineers our mission is to sustainably advance and protect the health, safety and welfare of all. In its Strategic Plan, ASCE states its commitment to inspire, connect, and serve our global membership to maximize their professional and personal growth and magnify their lifelong professional impact. Our leadership has a passion for the civil engineering profession and its future and is committed to the advancement of our Society, the profession, and our members.
My vision as a Society Director from Region 5 is to serve the leadership and members in Region 5, and I am committed to helping ASCE’s Board of Direction in fulfilling its commitments as stated in its Strategic Plan.
I will work to connect Society level resources and training opportunities to the Sections, Branches and Chapters in Region 5 and to support the Region 5 Governors in all Region activities and initiatives. At this ground level we must provide essential value to our members, to their careers, and to the public through developing leadership, advancing technology, and advocating lifelong learning. We must work to retain current members and to add new members which will allow ASCE to maintain its position in the world as trusted advisors and leaders. I have worked with our student members for many years and have encouraged them to join the Society where they can hone both their technical skills and leadership skills. They are our future Society leaders.
At a Society level we have the responsibility to lead the civil engineering profession throughout the world both technically and in promoting and facilitating civil engineering leadership. This is a time of enormous engineering challenges in a quickly evolving technological landscape. The Society must examine how this technology intersects with the civil engineering industry and consider ways to protect intellectual property while using ASCE’s knowledge base to advance civil engineering practice.
ASCE has a great future ahead and I am encouraged by its roadmap of Strategic Shifts and Strategic Objectives. I am committed to assisting ASCE’s Board of Direction in implementing actions for these initiatives for the Society, the Profession and its Membership.
