This award was endowed by the members of the DiGioia family to recognize and honor the life’s work of Anthony M. DiGioia, Jr., Ph.D., P.E., Dist.M.ASCE, who was chairman and principal consultant of DiGioia Gray Consulting Engineers & Scientists. The award advances the profession by recognizing individuals for outstanding contributions to the field of electric transmission engineering. The award was officially instituted by action of the Board of Direction on Oct. 8, 2025.
Rules
- The award is made annually to one individual in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of electric transmission engineering through analysis, design, construction, and maintenance of electrical transmission lines, substation structures, and foundations.
- Contributions that may be considered as the basis for nomination may include the innovative spirit, industry expertise, and commitment to excellence and mentorship that Dr. DiGioia championed. The recipient of this award will have demonstrated outstanding achievements in engineering practice, research, or education, and will have contributed to the betterment of the profession, society at large, and will serve to improve the design of structures and foundations that support overhead power lines.
- Members in the society, except student members, are eligible for nomination.
- The Award Selection Committee shall be the Structural Engineering Institute Awards Committee, whose duty shall be to recommend the nominee to the Executive Committee of the ASCE Board of Direction for final action.
- Nominees not selected in a given year will be held over for consideration through the next two selection cycles. At the end of the third cycle, nominees not chosen will no longer be eligible for consideration. The nominators who wish for their candidate to be considered for a three-cycle period must produce a new nomination package.
- The award consists of a certificate and honorarium determined annually by and subject to the approval of the Executive Committee of the ASCE Board of Direction based on income from the award endowment.
- The award shall be presented at a society conference.

- A cover letter, signed by the nominator
- The nominee's CV or biographical information
- Two or three letters of recommendation (max)
