Bak Kong Low earned a BS and an MS at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a PhD at the University of California, Berkeley. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a registered PE of Malaysia, and for 35 years taught at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. In 2019, he received the Thomas A. Middlebrooks Award from ASCE. He has been listed among the top 2% scientists in a global list based on standardized citation indicators released by Stanford University. His research interests are reliability-based design in soil and rock engineering, risk and uncertainty analysis in geotechnical engineering, soil and rock slope stability, and ground improvement.
