Brian N. Skourup (PE, SE, M.ASCE) is Principal Structural Engineer at Nextpower where he leads research and development programs supporting PV solar structural design for both domestic and international markets. Mr. Skourup has over 20 years of structural design experience including building, bridge, and non-building structures. He is recognized as an expert in national and international building codes, performance-based design, structural reliability, wind loads, and renewable energy structures design. He is a current member of three ASCE/SEI performance-based design committees, ASCE 7, and the ASCE Solar PV Structures Committee, which he previously chaired. His work on wind loads and structural reliability has been presented both nationally and internationally. He has authored or co-authored publications addressing wind loads, wind load reliability, performance-based design, and reliability-based approaches to structural design. Mr. Skourup previously served as the Structural Associate Editor for the ASCE Journal of Architectural Engineering. He also taught engineering mechanics and reinforced concrete design as an adjunct professor at the University of Nebraska where he earned both his BS and MEng in Architectural Engineering.
