Edward J. Smaglik is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at Northern Arizona University (NAU), Flagstaff, AZ. Dr. Smaglik has over 8 years of academic research and teaching experience, preceded by 2 years of experience as a post-doctoral research associate. He currently serves as a member of the TRB AHB25 Traffic Signal Systems Committee as well as the ASCE Streets and Highway Operations Committee. His research has focused on advanced uses of vehicle detection, traffic signal systems analyses, and multimodal safety and performance. Dr. Smaglik has served as the Principal Investigator on transportation related projects on a wide range of topics, including the development and application of performance measures at signalized intersections, an evaluation of countermeasures for bicycle - motor vehicle conflict zones, the analysis of travel time data related to special events, the development of a sustainable traffic sensor, and the evaluation of various vehicle detection technologies at signalized intersections.
