Michael T. McNerney, Assistant Manager for FAA's Airport Engineering, joined the agency in October 2010 with a focus on implementing and managing the Airports GIS program. Dr. McNerney's mission was to provide airports with a tool to help them update their airport layout plan every five years. This would serve one of FAA's goals of protecting the airspace and ensuring compatible land use development in the proximity of airports for the safety of the flying public.

Mike is an industry leader in airport pavement management systems and airport/aircraft compatibility. He has authored over 65 publications related to air and ground transportation research and evaluation. He has served as supervisor of flight operations at three US Air Force bases. He organized the successful series of six airport short courses at The University of Texas at Austin. As adjunct faculty, he continues to teach courses in airport design and operations at The University of Texas.
