Patrick J. Fox is a Professor in the Department of Structural Engineering at the University of California–San Diego with specialization in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1992. Dr. Fox has a broad range of expertise, including shear strength, geosynthetics, landfills and slope stability, and has published over 200 technical articles and reports. Dr. Fox has been conducting research on GCLs, and in particular GCL shear strength, since 1995. This work has received several awards, including the IGS Research Award from the International Geosynthetics Society, the Middlebrooks Award from ASCE, and best paper awards from the Geotechnical Testing Journal and Geosynthetics International. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the ASCE Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, Editorial Board Member for Geosynthetics International, Geotextiles & Geomembranes, and the ASCE International Journal of Geomechanics, and Member and Past Chair of the Technical Publications Committee of the ASCE Geo-Institute.
