Timothy D. Stark has been on the faculty of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign since 1991. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Illinois, Colorado, Washington, and Louisiana and participates in a wide range of domestic and international consulting projects. Dr. Stark has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in geotechnical engineering, foundation engineering, dams and levees, geosynthetics, and waste containment design. Dr. Stark's research interests include design of waste containment facilities and sustainable aluminum recycling, geosynthetics, static and seismic stability of natural and manmade slopes, soil liquefaction during earthquakes, behavior of railroad track systems and transitions, performance of compacted structural fills, and stabilization and behavior of dredged material containment areas. He has been involved in a number of research and consulting projects on these topics, which have facilitated the transfer of this technology to practice.
