ASCE has honored the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, United States Air Force Academy (Small Program) with the 2022 Walter LeFevre Award for excellence in promoting licensure, ethics, and professionalism within their program. Honorable Mention is also recommended for the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, United States Military Academy (Small Program).

The Civil and Mechanical Engineering Department at the United States Air Force Academy demonstrates a longstanding commitment to instilling the importance of engineering licensure, professionalism, and ethics in its cadets. This is exemplified in several aspects, including an emphasis on taking the Fundamentals of Engineering examination – with a passing rate above the national average – as well as the entire faculty being licensed, thus serving as role models in the classroom. The cadets also demonstrate a personal commitment to ethics through mandatory courses in the Academy curriculum and adherence to the Academy’s Honor Code.

The Civil and Mechanical Engineering Department at the United States Miliary Academy has a long and proud history of developing civil engineering leaders for the nation and continues to do so through a curriculum that integrates ethics and professionalism taught primarily by licensed engineers.

The Walter LeFevre Award recognizes academic institutions for their outstanding actions in promoting licensure, ethics, and professionalism.
