ASCE has honored Peter Lagasse, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, with the 2025 Hydraulic Structures Medal for excellence in the design and performance of hydraulic structures used for bridge waterways alluvial-channel protection and coastal engineering.
Lagasse, vice president for applied technology and senior hydraulic engineer with Ayres Associates, has been responsible for hydraulics, erosion, and sedimentation studies; river engineering; flood control; and river stabilization studies, as well as promoting corporate expertise in these specialty areas. He has 20 years of engineering experience with the Army Corps of Engineers and more than 40 years of experience with water resources consulting firms as president and vice president. His assignments with USACE included serving as chief of the Port Construction Section, U.S. Army Engineer Command, Vietnam (1966-1967), and senior advisor to a Republic of Vietnam Engineer District with design and construction responsibility for infrastructure in a six-province region in the Central Highlands (1970-1971). Over a 10-year period he had assignments of increasing responsibility at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, including assistant professor (1968-1970) and associate professor of fluid mechanics and assistant dean for academic research (1975-1981) when he retired from the U.S. Army.
The Hydraulic Structures Medal is awarded to an individual or individuals for significant contributions to the advancement of the art and science of hydraulic engineering as applied to hydraulic structures.
