Robert B. Welner, P.E., F.ASCE, a professional working in highway and building design and other areas, has been named a fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Welner has been involved in the construction management of JFK Airport Control Tower, in the design and construction of the first free-standing mosque (at 1711 Third Avenue in Manhattan in 1991), and in service to a large number of residential and commercial real-estate projects in New York.
Most importantly, in concert with the ASCE Motto of being “A people-serving profession,” he considers the focus of his activities as both a civil engineer and MBA recipient to have been providing affordable housing for those in less fortunate circumstances, having himself grown up in a very modest home and fortunate enough to have obtained a public education from grammar to graduate school.
Also, he is now able to give back philanthropically and work actively for the social mobility goals of the City College of New York through membership on the Foundation for City College Board, and via active engagement on the advisory board of the Grove School of Engineering to promote the study of the profession to the next generation of students.
Welner received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the City College of New York in 1971 and a Master of Business Administration in 1975 from the Bernard M. Baruch Graduate School of Business.
