ASCE has honored Carol C. Menassa, Ph.D., F.ASCE, with the 2026 Construction Management Award for her scholarship in research leading to strong collaborations with industry partners and introducing novel pedagogical methods in teaching civil engineering and construction management.

Menassa has incorporated significant innovation – the industry-research embedded learning experience – in her Construction Professional Practice class. Her scholarship in construction management has extended into her wholehearted service to the professional community.

She has made significant contributions to advance the body of knowledge in construction management. She has been working in major research themes that have taken her research well beyond the doctoral work in which she developed novel alternate dispute resolution, or ADR, methods for construction contracts. Menassa’s research focuses on understanding and modeling the interconnections between human experience and the constructed environment. Her research group designs autonomous systems that support the well-being, safety, and productivity of construction and other workers and provides them opportunities for lifelong learning and upskilling.

Menassa has also served our professional community in several leadership positions, particularly in the ASCE Construction Institute, including a tenure as chair of the ASCE Construction Research Council Executive Committee as well as the ASCE Computing Division Education Committee. She also served as a member of the Board of Governors of the ASCE Construction Institute.

The Construction Management Award is presented to a member of the Society who has made a definite contribution in the field of construction management in general and, more particularly, in the application of theoretical aspects of engineering economics, statistics, probability theory, operations research, and related mathematics-oriented disciplines to problems of construction management, estimating, costs accounting, planning, scheduling, and financing.
