Peter D. Marxhausen, M.S., P.E., F.SEI, F.ASCE, director of Forensic Engineering and Co-Founder of dux Forensics LLC, in Denver, has been named a fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Marxhausen specializes in forensic investigation of structural, civil, and geotechnical engineering systems, including building failures, construction defects, infrastructure damage, and claims involving property loss, personal injury, and wrongful death. Over the course of his career, he has investigated more than 10,000 structures and has served as the engineer of record for thousands of structural repairs. He has provided expert testimony in local, state, and federal courts, and his work emphasizes the determination of causation, the evaluation of the standard of care, and the development of practical repair solutions for damaged structures.

In addition to his professional practice, for nearly 20 years, Marxhausen has been a senior instructor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Colorado Denver, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in structural design, engineering ethics, and professional practice. He has contributed to the development of future engineers through coursework in timber, masonry, and senior design, introduction to civil engineering, and mentorship of graduate research.

Marxhausen has been an active member of ASCE and the Structural Engineering Institute for nearly three decades. He has served in leadership roles within the Structural Engineers Association of Colorado, including chairing the Ethics and Legislative Committee and serving as an elected director. His professional contributions include publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national conferences on forensic engineering, ethics, and risk management. 

Marxhausen holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Colorado Denver and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Colorado State University.
