The OPAL Gala honors outstanding civil engineering leaders whose lifetime accomplishments contributed to the creation of thriving businesses and the local economies of the communities they serve.

Celebrate industry luminaries and groundbreaking projects at the prestigious OPAL Gala. The OPAL Gala honors outstanding civil engineering leaders whose accomplishments have contributed to the profession, and the 12 exceptional projects named Honor Award recipients. Attend to meet important industry leaders who are currently active in important civil engineering projects. The evening culminates in the naming of the top projects taking home the Bronze, Silver, and OPAL trophies.

Start time – Festivities begin with the President’s welcome at 5:30 p.m.

Dress code – Black tie preferred

Getting to the hotel – Dulles International Airport is seven miles from the Hyatt Regency Reston. If travelling from Washington, DC driving or using Metro is recommended. The Reston Town Center Station on the Silver Line is 0.2 miles from the hotel. There is onsite parking at the hotel.

OPAL Gala on CBS Sunday Morning

One of civil engineering’s highest honors earned a moment in the national spotlight! The ASCE OPAL Gala, otherwise known as the “Oscars of Engineering,” was featured on CBS Sunday Morning. The story included all the action from the red carpet at the 2022 ASCE Convention in California, a spotlight on the 2022’s Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement award-winning project – Seattle’s Rainier Square and its innovative Speedcore construction technology, which helped speed up construction of the high-rise tower.
