Camilla Saviz is Professor of Civil Engineering at University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. (Go Tigers! Roar!) She received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University, an M.B.A. from the New York Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Davis in the area of hydrodynamic and water quality modeling. She joined the University of the Pacific in 1999 and is a registered Professional Engineer in California. Her teaching, research, and professional interests include water resources engineering, sustainability, engineering education, accreditation, and leadership.
Camilla started her teaching career by tutoring a classmate in Calculus 2 during junior college. She couldn’t believe that she got paid for doing something that was so much fun! This also holds true of her job at Pacific, but don’t tell the Dean. Her interest in Fluid Mechanics and Water Resources led her along a wandering path that has included work as a Facilities Engineer, a Hydrologic Engineer, a Hydraulics Lab Teaching Assistant, a sea kayaking instructor, and a bar tender, among others.
Camilla served as chair of Civil Engineering from 2015-2025. She has served on various ASCE committees including the Committee on Student Activities, Committee on Accreditation, Department Heads Coordinating Council, and as chair of the Committee on Education. She has served as an ASCE Region 9 Governor but her favorite ASCE role has always been serving as Faculty Advisor for the Pacific Student Chapter. Since 2010, Camilla has been involved in ABET accreditation, serving as a Program Evaluator, then Team Chair and Commissioner on the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC), and currently, as a member of the EAC Executive Committee. Camilla participated in the ExCEEd Teaching Workshop in 2002, and has had the privilege of serving as an Assistant Mentor or Mentor over 20 times, helping engineering faculty become better educators and develop a passion for teaching.
