Dr. Prasad Yenumula is a Principal Engineer in Line Engineering System Standards at Duke Energy with 28 years of electric utility industry experience in transmission line engineering and standards. He is also an adjunct professor in the T&D Engineering Master’s program at Gonzaga University, WA, a Department of Energy (DOE)-sponsored program. Dr. Yenumula is one of the founding faculty members of the program and teaches several courses in the area of line design.
Dr. Yenumula serves in several leadership roles in prominent industry organizations, including Chair of the ASCE OPS Task Committee on Design of Overhead Line and Substation Foundations, Chair of the Line Design Task Force at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), and Executive Committee Member and Past Chair of CEATI’s Line Design Group. He is an active member of ASCE’s new loading standard 84, ASCE’s Overhead Powerline Structures (OPS) committee, ASCE 10 standard on latticed towers, and ASCE 48 standard on steel poles. He is a member of DFI, NESC, EEI, ISSMGE, SEI, NATF, ANSI C29 on insulators, and related industry standards committees.
Dr. Yenumula holds a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering, an MBA, and has also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in engineering. His published works include more than sixty technical papers, over one hundred presentations at industry meetings, and the co-authored widely used textbook Transmission Line Structures and Foundations. He has received twenty-seven awards for his contributions to engineering, research, and teaching, including best Ph.D. thesis, best research papers, four Faculty of the Year awards, four EPRI Technology Transfer awards, Duke Energy Enterprise Operational Excellence awards, and the prestigious James B. Duke Career Achievement Award.
