Ramin Motamed, Ph.D., P.E., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR). His main areas of research are shake table tests on shallow and deep foundations; liquefaction and mitigation measures; nonlinear site response analysis; and soil-structure interaction. Dr. Motamed currently leads projects in these areas which are funded by federal and state agencies as well as industry. He serves on the editorial board of the ASCE Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering and is the Secretary of the Technical Committee of Earthquake Engineering & Soil Dynamics of ASCE Geo-Institute. Ramin earned his Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Tokyo in 2007 where he carried out research on the behavior of pile foundations in liquefied soils using the shake table tests. Prior to joining UNR, Dr. Motamed was a Senior Engineer with Arup in San Francisco. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of California and Nevada.
