Steve Gartner, P.E., M. ASCE, is a Senior Structural Engineer and Principal Engineer for Renewable Energy at HDR, where he practices structural engineering in the design of power generation and renewable energy facilities. He has more than 30 years of experience designing structural systems that range from traditional thermal generation and boilers to wind turbines, battery energy storage, utility-scale solar PV, and novel power generation technologies. Since 2010, Steve has focused on utility-scale solar PV, including the design, evaluation, and review of ground-mounted racking systems and their foundations. His project roles have included Engineer of Record, Owner’s Engineer, and Lead Forensic Engineer for RCA assessments of damaged fixed-tilt and single-axis trackers. Steve is a Charter Member of SEI, co-founder and inaugural Chair of the ASCE/SEI Solar PV Structures Committee, an Associate Member of the Load Combinations Subcommittee of ASCE 7, and a contributor to ASCE/SEI Manual of Practice 162 - Design and Construction of Solar PV Structures.
