Purpose and Background
This session will highlight the work of the IRD SPEED committee in providing guidance and best practice for integrating sustainability and resilience into civil engineering projects. The session will present fundamental concepts, holistic metrics, and practical advice on what should be done throughout the asset lifecycle. Participants should walk away with a greater understanding of how to integrate resilience and sustainability into their work.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Define resilience and sustainability
- Explain and conceptualize differences and synergies between resilience and sustainability as they apply to civil engineering projects
- Identify use of a suite of holistic metrics for incorporating resilience and sustainability across a project's lifestyle
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes are assessed and achieved through passing a 10 multiple choice question post-test with at least a 70%.
