INSTRUCTORS:
Thomas Tannert, Ph.D, P.Eng, M.ASCE
Houman Ganjali, M.ASCE
Purpose and Background
Cross-laminated timber (CLT) continues to expand possibilities for sustainable and efficient structural systems. In point-supported floors, CLT panels can deliver two-way span resistance when directly supported by columns — but punching shear at the column connection remains a critical design challenge. This session introduces a new design method that estimates punching shear resistance based on column circumference, panel geometry and material properties, and floor boundary conditions — without relying on complex numerical modeling. Participants will gain both theoretical understanding and practical tools for applying this innovative approach to CLT floor design.
Benefits and Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain punching shear challenges in point-supported CLT floors
- Describe the proposed punching shear design method
- Discuss how floor boundary conditions and loading influence punching shear resistance in CLT floors
Who Should Attend?
- Structural engineerv
- Construction engineer
- Architect
How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs and Receive Your Certificate of Completion
To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short on-line post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 365 days of course purchase.
How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?
1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs \[Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
