Patricia Clayton, Ph.D, P.E., F.ASCE, an associate professor in the Department of Engineering at Wake Forest University, has been named a fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.

Clayton joined the faculty at Wake Forest in 2021, after seven years as a faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin. Their professional expertise is in structural engineering, with particular interests in earthquake engineering and design and analysis of steel structures. 

Clayton has a passion for teaching and supporting other faculty in their teaching. They have been recognized by and have helped lead faculty development workshops for ASCE, the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), and the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network. They have been actively involved in the ASCE Excellence in Civil Engineering Education (ExCEEd) program since 2015, including supporting the development and execution of the fully remote ExCEEd Teaching Workshop that has been offered annually since 2021. Clayton has chaired the ASCE Committee on Faculty Development and currently chairs the ASCE Committee on Education as it transitions to the Committee on Workforce and Education.

They earned their bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from North Carolina State University and their master’s and doctoral degrees in civil engineering at the University of Washington.
