Your research. Your innovation. Your stage at ASCE2027.

Have research that uses AI? Showcase it at ASCE2027. The ASCE2027 AI in Civil Engineering Student Competition invites students attending ASCE2027 to showcase research that applies or explores artificial intelligence in civil engineering.

How it works?

The competition will be held in two rounds.

In Round 1, participants will submit a short video presentation. The strongest 10-15 submissions will advance to Round 2 at ASCE2027 in Philadelphia, where finalists will deliver a short 3-minute live presentation followed by a Q&A session with the judging panel. This final stage gives participants the opportunity to present their work directly to students, researchers, faculty, practitioners, and members of the broader ASCE community.

The challenge is designed to give students a platform to communicate impact, showcase innovation, and demonstrate how AI can help shape the future of civil engineering.

Round 1 - Video Submission

  • Participants must submit a 90 second or less video presentation introducing and showcasing their research.
  • The video should clearly communicate the novelty of the research problem, the need for an AI based solution, the AI model or approach used, the methodology, key findings, and potential real-world applications. Using AI tools solely for presentation, coding assistance, or text writing does not qualify.
  • Videos exceeding the 90 seconds will be rejected without further evaluation.
  • The video link must remain open and accessible to the judging committee without requiring special access requests, passwords, or permissions. Unlisted or public YouTube links are examples of acceptable submissions.
  • Participants may use slides, graphics, animations, demonstrations, or other visual elements to communicate their research effectively.

Round 2 – ASCE2027

  • At least ten (10) finalists will be selected. Selected finalists will be invited to compete in person at ASCE 2027.
  • Each finalist will receive 6 minutes total:
  • 3 minutes – Live presentation
  • 3 minutes – Questions and answers with the judging panel
Important deadlines

All submission, finalist-notification, and final-presentation deadlines published on the competition website are final. Participants are responsible for ensuring that all required materials are submitted before the stated deadlines.
