INSTRUCTOR:
William L. Coulbourne, P.E, F.SEI, F.ASCE
Purpose and Background
This course will share with the practice the changes that have been included in the ASCE 7-22 revision to wind loads for components and cladding. These changes include revised roof coefficients and zones for gable and hip roofs, added pressure coefficients for the bottom of elevated buildings, revised method for determining overhang pressures, an added section on roof top pavers, and the changes required to have C&C provisions apply to tornado wind loads. Many of these changes are intended to improve the ease for finding the appropriate pressure coefficient for any given component or cladding condition.
Benefits and Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify the key changes to Components & Cladding (C&C) loads in ASCE 7-22.
- Explain the implications of the ASCE 7-22 changes on wind design practices for components and cladding.
- Describe the scope of the C&C wind pressure provisions in ASCE 7-22.
- Use the updated C&C load provisions from ASCE 7-22 in a real-world design situation.
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Students' achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed via a short post-test exam involving true-false and multiple-choice questions.
Who Should Attend?
- Civil and Structural engineers that are involved in the practice of wind design
- Architects who practice building design
- Professionals in building product markets
- Engineering professionals
- Engineers of record
- Architects of record
Outline
- Overview of the changes to C&C provisions
- Review the changes to C&C pressure coefficients for gable and hip roofs
- Review added C&C pressure coefficients for the bottom of flat horizontal surfaces of elevated buildings
- Review the revised method for determining roof overhang pressures
- Review the added pressure coefficients for attached canopies for buildings with h > 60 ft.
- Review the added section on roof top pavers
- Review other provisions for C&C coefficients for bins, tanks, and silos
- Review the changes to C&C wind provisions for tornado wind loads
How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs
Upon completion of this course, attendees will receive .2 CEUs /2 PDHs. To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 30 days of the course.
How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?
1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs [Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
