ASCE has honored Craig B. Hazen, P.E., M.ASCE, with the 2025 Harold R. Peyton Award for Cold Regions Engineering for an outstanding consulting career in cold regions engineering dedicated to serving the oil industry infrastructure and pipeline areas by providing specialty arctic engineering services to owners, engineers, and constructors in arctic regions.  

Hazen has spent the majority of his career working in the oil industry infrastructure and pipeline consulting arena, and he founded Northern Engineering & Scientific (NES) in 1987. Through this firm, he serves as a specialty arctic engineer consultant to owners, engineers and contractors in arctic regions. He has extensive experience with the engineering design and management of projects in cold regions, with geotechnical exploration and laboratory programs, and using computer models to develop and refine engineering designs.

Hazen has conducted engineering feasibility studies and engineering design of various arctic projects. He has presented and published many documents of his work in furthering the profession of cold regions arctic engineering.

The Harold R. Peyton Award for Cold Regions Engineering is presented to a member of the Society who has made outstanding contributions to cold region engineering or to a basic understanding of cold environments, including dissemination of knowledge of cold climates technology, through publishing innovative technical or research papers.
